Fantastic book for surgery rotation. The questions present are eerily similar to questions on the OSCE examination or equivalent examination during the rotation that one encounters. Lightweight enough to fit into the pockets of one's white coat. Not very expensive as well with regards to the price of the book. Easy to quiz oneself as the questions are on the left and the answers are on the right side of each page. Use of easy enough to understand language. Only drawback is lack of a lot of figures or diagrams in the book.

This book is the reason I performed well in my Surgery rotation in medical school. I found myself going back to it before every surgery I scrubbed in on. Saved me many times when I was being "pimped" by my attendings. BUY THIS BOOK!
The only book I needed for my surgical rotation in PA school -- fits into your white coat pocket and has a great section on etiquette in the beginning, which I now emphasize for our students who rotate through.
This book is in short, Q&A style, and is excellent for quick review, especially when you have 10 minutes before a case starts. During surgeries, I got asked a lot of questions straight out of the book. A more thorough book is needed for in-depth info, but this book is great to carry around with you and read in those rare spare minutes.
I agree with previous reviews that this book should be a supplemental book not your primary tool for learning all that you need to know in surgery. At a minimum you should aim to get through all of the info in this book (minus the info in the surgical specialty section) during you rotation, but this book alone may not be enough to do well on shelf.
While this book is fairly thick, it has many of the common testing and clinical "pimping" questions for MS3/MS4 surgery rotations. A good white coat companion for reading during downtime during rotations. Not much help for preparing for MS3 Surgery shelf - another study aid is needed.
I found the OR to be an almost laughable game once I started reading Recall. The attendings would ask the exact questions in Recall in almost every case with very few exceptions. Knowing what case you are about go into and taking the 10 mins or so to read the relevant chapter or section in Recall made answering those questions very easy.

I never tried to read Recall from cover to cover. Doing so would be painfully difficult as it is truly just a list of high yield facts with very little interpretation or explanation.

Recall is organized around procedures / diagnosis and as such is of limited use as a reference for expanding a differential diagnosis in a case write up.

It is, however, an absolutely invaluable tool for surviving the OR.
